John McDevitt

When asked about a photo to go with John's poem, "A Great Hawk" he graciously replied, "I do have a photo of a hawk that will go with the poem. It's attached to this message. My copyright is watermarked on it.
Interesting story about this photo. I happened to have high speed B&W film loaded into my Nikon F3HP one Sunday afternoon a few years ago. My wife came running upstairs to tell me about the hawk who was just sitting there on a branch out in our yard.
I think I used a 200mm lens with an extender. I shot it hand held braced against a tree that leaned out over the creek. That bird never moved. I like the shot and it's the perfect one."

A Great Hawk

A great hawk
I watch and wait
searching
spiraling on thermals of insight

A great hawk
I thunder silently
plunging
impaling the unwary

A great hawk
I stretch my wings
climbing
dripping the blood of ideas

A great hawk
I settle to ground
quietly
devouring in delight

A great hawk
I watch and wait
searching
riding my hunger
